How we measured
On October 24, 2026, we read each chain's membership page on its own site, with a plain HTTP reader or a headless browser, without an account, and counted club pages in each chain's sitemap or club list. Nothing comes from third-party price lists or from memory. When a chain publishes no price, we say so and show none.
- Biweekly to monthly: GoodLife, Fit4Less and some YMCAs bill every two weeks. Where we show a monthly figure for those, it is our arithmetic: the biweekly price × 26 ÷ 12.
- Default location: GoodLife priced a default club chosen from our IP address (Orléans, Ontario), and Fit4Less showed its Toronto-area default. A club elsewhere can be priced differently.
- City counts: a club counts for a city when the chain files it there. Toronto includes North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke; Ottawa includes Nepean, Kanata and Orléans. Gatineau is not counted with Ottawa.
- Not covered: independent gyms, personal trainer rates (GoodLife, the one chain we checked for them, publishes none), and chains whose sites blocked our reader.

How much is a gym membership in Canada?
Among the big chains that publish prices, on October 24, 2026: Fit4Less $7.99 to $13.99 every two weeks plus a $49.99 annual fee; GoodLife from $27.99 every two weeks for a home-club plan up to $54.99 for Performance; the YMCA from $45.50 a month for an adult (Montreal, POLY plan on an annual contract) to $90.20 (Calgary, GST included), depending on the city. Anytime Fitness, Orangetheory and F45 set prices club by club. Prices are before tax unless noted.
What is the cheapest gym chain in Canada?
Of the chains that publish a price, Fit4Less: the 4Less Card is $7.99 every two weeks for one club (about $17.31 a month), plus a $49.99 annual fee and tax. Planet Fitness could not be read, so it is not in this comparison.
Which gym chain has the most locations in Canada?
Anytime Fitness, with 450 club pages on its Canadian site, ahead of GoodLife (201), Fit4Less (122) and Orangetheory (95 studios). Planet Fitness could not be counted.
Do gym memberships in Canada have contracts?
GoodLife and Fit4Less say no commitment. Anytime Fitness clubs set their own terms, and some offer 6, 12 or 18-month options. Movati sells term memberships that you cancel at the end of the term. The YMCA du Québec sells an annual contract.
